Primer plays a key role in rust prevention. A good primer—applied before your topcoat and after proper surface preparation—will help keep your metal surface from corroding for as long as possible. Enter Boysen metal primers that are specifically formulated to have rust-inhibiting properties. Go through the products below and see which one suits your project best.

Boysen Red Oxide Metal Primer

Boysen Red Oxide Metal Primer B-310

Boysen Red Oxide Metal Primer continues to be a popular choice among Boysen users for priming metals. It’s an easy pick! An alkyd-based, rust-inhibiting primer, it can be applied on interior and exterior metal substrates such as steel and iron surfaces. Yes, yero sheets too.

Some areas of the house to use it on include metal gates, fences, doors, beams, framings, railings, and stairs. Apply a solid coat of the metal primer and wait for 12 hours for it to fully dry before painting your topcoat.

Here’s another alkyd-based metal primer. Boysen Rust-Off Gray is recommended for interior and exterior steel and iron surfaces. This means you can, again, use it on metal gates, fences, doors, beams, framings, railings, and stairs.

It was developed by Boysen engineers to have special rust-inhibiting pigments that make it even more corrosion-resistant than traditional metal primers. Its light gray shade gives it great hiding over colored substrates which allows you more freedom when picking your new topcoat color like white or other light hues.

Boysen Primeguard

For hard-to-adhere metal surfaces like stainless steel and aluminum, Boysen Primeguard is an excellent choice. It provides excellent adhesion between the topcoat and the metal surface to help ensure a durable and long-lasting paint job. Of course, it also has reliable rust-inhibiting properties.

Being a water-based metal primer, it has a quicker drying time compared to solvent-based ones. It dries to the touch within just one hour but it’s best to wait for up to 2 hours before applying the topcoat. Clean-up is also easy as you only need water. It’s also low odor and non-flammable.
