Paint at the hardware store come in pretty large containers—typically 4-liter and 16-liter buckets and cans. This makes sense since we usually paint large areas, such as room walls and home exteriors. But what if you want to try a few paint colors out first before committing to one? After all, you don’t want to start painting a wall only to find out that you don’t like the shade, right? This is where paint color testing comes in. In this quick guide you’ll find out where you can get paint in petite 200 mL containers for color testing. We’ve also included a few tips to help you narrow down your choice of hues. Read on!
Paint Colors and Choosing the Right One for You
Let’s say you’re repainting your bedrooms walls. You want to pick the right color for you since you’re going to have this paint color for, hopefully, a long, long time. Here are a few tips to help point you in the right direction:
- Tip #1: The color has to complement the decor. This means the main colors in the room, such as the walls and key pieces of furniture like the sofa, have to work well with each other. Having a color scheme in mind is a big help. Check out the Color Theory section of this blog to get an idea of how to come up with one.
- Tip #2: You have to like how the color looks whatever time of day and under artificial lighting. Because of the shifting of light, your chosen hue will appear different during the day, at night, and when you have lights turned on. It should be pleasing to you in all of these scenarios.
- Tip #3: Be mindful of undertones. Even if you’ve chosen an off-white paint color, it’s still going to have a warmer (a hint of yellow) or cooler (a hint of blue) undertone. Having the colors in the room in similar undertones will help your space feel more put together. Having contrasting undertones will help other colors in the room stand out. Decide which you want.
Once you’ve narrowed down your choices to a few colors, it’s time to shop for them. So, where do you go if you want just enough of a paint color to test it out? Boysen’s The Color Library, of course!
The Color Library: Color Testing with 200 mL Boysen Paints
In case you haven’t heard, The Color Library is a collection of 1,320 Boysen paint colors ready to be mixed in-store for you to take home. Huge shelves that dominate the concept store house paint colors swatches called Colorbooks. When you visit, feel free to browse the shelves, pull out a few Colorbooks, and compare colors with each other.
Already The Color Library sounds like a paint experience like no other, doesn’t it? But it doesn’t stop there. Once you have the colors that you like, you can head over to the counter to have them mixed in 200 mL and 1 L containers.
Yup, 200 mL containers! It’s the perfect sample size for your home project. Purchasing big buckets of paint just so you can test the colors out would be costly, impractical, and inconvenient. With 200 mL containers, you can bring home as many hues as you want. The 1 L is great as well if you’re looking for more coverage.
The paint comes as Boysen Permacoat in flat or semi-gloss finish (your choice!) for use in interior and exterior concrete surfaces. A 200 mL paint container can cover approximately 1.25 to 1.50 square meters in one coat. This allows you enough coverage to visualize colors in different lighting conditions and how they will respond with other elements in the space.
If you need more of a paint color, say you’ve already decided which one you’re going, you can show the color name and code to a Boysen Mix and Match station (list of locations here) and get the paint color mixed in larger amounts.
Having lots of choices is a double-edged sword. It can be great to have so many color options to choose from but it can also be overwhelming. And, when you do make up your mind about a color, there’s still the matter of which shade of that color to pick. Hopefully The Color Library makes things a little easier for you. In fact, we’re pretty sure it will!
The Color Library is located at the MOA Square, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. It’s a few steps away from IKEA. We hope to see you soon!
