No doubt, a tidy home starts with a lot of organization and decluttering. But what happens if you’ve already tidied and something still feels… off. It could be because of the colors in the space. Colors can influence how organized and put-together a room looks. Don’t neglect it. Here are some tips to help you create a tidy home with the help of colors.

1. Choose Your Hues Wisely

More isn’t always merrier. Too many disjointed and haphazardly chosen colors can very easily make a space feel cluttered and unorganized. The eyes get confused about where to look and focus on which makes it seem like the room is in disarray. So, be picky with your hues.

Having a clear and instantly identifiable color palette goes a long way in making a feel tidy and put-together. It gives it cohesiveness and direction. The 60-30-10 rule will come in very handy with this.

This doesn’t have to be too difficult either. For example, Filipinos love the Scandinavian and #TeamPuti design styles so choosing furniture, soft furnishings, and other accessories in neutral colors is a good place to start. You can, of course, sprinkle in a thoughtfully chosen punch of color to bring in interest. We have loads of blog posts you can take inspiration from as well in the Color Inspirations section.

2. Display the Best, Hide the Rest

It just can’t be helped. You will have stuff in your home that’s difficult to color coordinate. Take your kitchen and your bathroom. The packaging of the products on your counters comes in a range of colors. Having them all out on display may not be wise if you’re going for a tidy look. Instead, curate what you’ll leave out in the open and know that it’s okay to keep some things out of view and inside cabinets.

Carefully choose what will be placed on your open shelves and counters. This can be a mix of both practical items, meaning those you often use, and aesthetic items, meaning those that look good and follow your chosen color palette. For best results, make sure you leave a little wiggle room in between the items to create a cleaner look.

3. Go for a Light Color on Your Walls

“Keeping the paint color light and consistent throughout the home makes your space appear neater by giving it airy, seamless transitions from one room to the next,” says interior designer Alexis Rodgers to Real Simple. In particular, Rodgers recommends a light gray with a warm undertone for room walls.

If you’re thinking of getting white walls, see if you’re open to going with gray in a light and subtle shade instead. Unlike stark white, gray has more depth and visual interest while still blending in beautifully with the other colors in the room. Plus, it hides smudges and dirt on your wall better than white.

As your paint product, it’s hard to go wrong with Virtuoso Silk Touch. Its matte finish can make the space feel cozier, more inviting, and elegant as it lacks the shine of glossy paint. And, even though does come in a matte finish, it has an easy-clean feature that helps ensure your home stays neat and tidy.

Now, take a step back and really look at the colors in the room you’re in. Are they working for or against creating a tidy-looking space?
