Still, given how unpredictable weather can be, you’re more likely to encounter your roof paint getting rained on before it properly dries. What do you do when that happens?
When Roof Paints Get Rained On Before It Dries
The first thing to do when your roof paint gets rained on, when you’re not yet done with the work, is to assess the paint condition. What to do depends on which step of the painting process you are already in. The good news is that there’s no meticulous process when dealing with wet roof paint that gets rained on. Generally, if the rain has washed off the coating, you need to repeat the surface preparation process and the painting schedule:
- Strip off any loose paint.
- Clean the surface and let it dry.
- Spot prime any bare metal surfaces.
- Apply two to three coats of Boysen Roofgard.
Another good news is that the best roof paints in the market are usually water-based. Because these kinds of paints are quick to dry, it’s likely that the roof paint (or the primer) has dried before it even gets rained on. When that’s the case, you only need to let the surface dry, then apply the rest of the required coats.

Hopefully, when you choose to paint your roof again, plan to do it with dry weather as a primary consideration. Check the weather forecast, or just wait until the dry season to be really safe.
It’s not just rain you need to watch out for. Humidity and temperature are also factors that ensure your paints dry and adhere properly on your roof surfaces.
