This is the first moodboard video for a commercial space. We are using white as the primary color to continue the white motif we started with the four moodboard videos before this that showed rooms in a home.

I previously wrote about the 90/90 rule of shop owners regarding the importance of color in a commercial space.

It is commonly known in the industry that potential customers make a subconscious judgment about a brand within 90 seconds of entering a store, and 90% of first impressions are based on color. Quite simply, use the right colors in your retail store design because it makes a huge difference. (shopPOPdisplays)

If you are not part of a franchise where branding is required by the franchisor, then the choice of colors in your commercial space, among many other things, is going to be decided by you as well as by your architect and/or interior designer if you have these experts who can take you under their wing.

The Moodboard

A concept store is about selling a lifestyle, and this lady’s boutique is no exception. Like any brick and mortar store, location is very important. Choose a space that is located in a building that reflects the quality and prices of the goods you will be selling because this will assure you of a higher foot traffic of your target audience. Accessible parking areas are also very important.

The White Shop carries accessories, leather goods, scents, and women’s tailored clothing. To exude an exclusive vibe, we’ve chosen white as the primary color for this contemporary minimalist space. The other colors are neutrals to echo the curated merchandise made of premium materials.

Here are the swatches of Boysen products used for this retail space. Boysen Permacoat Latex in the color of Sugar Dust is a white color with just a tinge of yellow undertone. Boysen Oil Wood Stain in Mahogany half tone is used for the wood elements in the store to give weight and warmth to the white color. Both are premium products that would be fitting for this elegant and classy space.

Just like you carefully curate the things you will be selling, you would also need to provide the space to present them in the best possible way. They have to be easily accessible, and displayed in a way that gives generous spacing so that your customers will be able to touch, examine, and appreciate the details of each piece.

Choose layered, warm lighting for the entire space and for each level of the wall recess or shelves so that the items on display stand out. Comfortable lighting helps make potential clients linger in your store. Have seating ready for those who would like to rest a bit. Make sure your fitting rooms provide privacy and comfort, as well as adequate and flattering lighting to help the client along to make a positive decision.

Have a soft, feminine scent waft through your shop. A little bit of muted music in the background could also add to the tasteful ambience you want for The White Shop.

Remember, 90 seconds is all you have to make an impact, and 90% of first impressions fall on the colors you choose for your retail space. Choose your colors well and ensure that these would help create a cohesively designed boutique. When all design elements in your shop align with your merchandise, you build a stronger brand.
