We will be coming out with more moodboard videos that focus on the color white, since this hue remains a favorite for so many. For the first one, we are showing a soft industrial kitchen.
Industrial Design Style
Loft conversions started as early as the 1950s in the U.S. because rent was cheap, and these had large windows and high ceilings. Many artists and creatives began using these affordable spaces as their studios and living spaces, and that is still true today.
The global spread came in the 1960s and 1970s when factories were converted into urban living spaces. Today, it has become a deliberate design style choice. The key features of the industrial style are 1) exposed structural elements like pipes, ducts, and beams, 2) raw surfaces like distressed wood, polished concrete surfaces, and exposed brick, and 3) open-plan layouts.
In the Philippines, the industrial style became popular in the 2010s. We have shown so many industrial style interiors in this blog. This is no longer a novelty, and has actually moved into the mainstream. You can see it in homes, commercial spaces like retail shops, restaurants, and cafes, like the hardware store-themed cafe in Katipunan QC called Resonate.
Soft Industrial Kitchen
Let’s move on to the moodboard video showing this kitchen, which features organic materials like wood and fabric to soften the industrial look.
What makes this industrial style “soft” for this kitchen are the use of organic materials like wood, and bringing in fabrics and greenery. You can further enhance the softness by using more fabrics in the mix, like adding plush area rugs, lightweight window drapes, or decorative pillows if you have a cozy banquette for a sit-in kitchen.
Light this place up with warm-toned pendant lamps and use the same warm tones for task lighting, as well. Warm light creates an inviting mood. If you have natural light streaming in, that also helps increase the coziness factor.
The Moodboard
The predominant color is white, with black and brown accents. These colors form a foundational, high-contrast palette for the industrial design style. These emphasize raw structures and utilitarian forms.

Boysen Oil Wood Stain
Use Boysen Oil Wood Stain to enhance and protect interior woodworks. This product comes in different colors. But for this kitchen, we’ve chosen Walnut for its appeal to modern tastes. Its chocolate hue adds organic warmth without feeling heavy. When the oil wood stain is settled in, apply Boysen Lacquer Sanding Sealer as an intermediate coat to prevent tannin stains from appearing. Then, apply Boysen Dead Flat Lacquer or Clear Gloss Lacquer as topcoat. Choose which one appeals to you.

Boysen Quick Drying Enamel
As an accent, we’ve chosen Boysen Quick Drying Enamel in black. This product is perfect for wood and metal substrates. It provides a tough and beautiful finish, and because of its gloss level, you’re guaranteed a long-lasting finish with superior hiding properties.
This product is recommended for furniture, like kitchen cabinets, because it dries to a hard, smooth shell that stands up to heavy daily use.
Boysen Permacoat Latex
The white paint used for the walls is Boysen Permacoat Latex for its excellent hiding and outstanding durability.
It comes in many white and off-white colors, so you can choose the undertone that you prefer.
Lastly, use different metals and clear glass to add visual interest and shine.
Konstrukt Lunar Series
If you want a textured wall, you can use Konstrukt, a line of construction chemicals from Boysen. It has several faux cement finishes in the Konstrukt Lunar Series that you may find attractive and more fitting to the industrial style you want.
