Paint swatches and paint samples both help you determine if a paint color is right for you. They represent the color as it would be if you got a paint can of it. How do they differ and which is better to use? Well, it depends. We walk you through it!
Boysen Paint Swatches and Where to Find Them
Paint swatches replicate the color of paint. Quite literally, they’re a reference for the actual paint color. Physical paint swatches are strips of paper with the paint color printed on it. Digital paint swatches are, as in the name, digital representations of the paint color. This means you can view these on phones, tablets, laptops, etc.
Boysen has both physical and digital swatches of its paint colors. Boysen’s physical paint swatches are easiest to find as fan decks at the many Boysen Mix & Match stations. If you want your own, you can get them online too. Aside from fan decks, you’ll also encounter our paint swatches through product brochures and The Color Library by Boysen.
Boysen’s digital swatches are useful for browsing paint colors anywhere and anytime. They’re convenient and easy to get your hands on. Find the largest collection of our digital paint swatches on the Boysen App and Boysen website.
Their main disadvantage, however, is color accuracy. Because tech specs vary per device, colors can appear differently depending on the screen you’re viewing it from (here’s an example). So, before you get your paint color mixed, it’s best to check the physical swatch of your chosen paint color too.
Boysen Paint Samples and Where to Find Them
A paint sample is a small amount of paint in the color that you want it. Yes, actual paint! This allows you to test out the paint color before you commit to a full-size container. You can choose to apply it on the surface you’re painting or a scrap bit of material.
Boysen’s sample pots come in 200 mL containers. This can cover approximately 1.25 to 1.50 square meters in one coat. It’s enough to visualize the paint color in different lighting conditions and how well it will interact with the other colors in the space.
The Color Library by Boysen has sample pots available of more than 1,300 paint colors. Aside from 200 mL, they also have 1 L containers in stock. Sample pots can also be purchased through the Boysen website in the Buy Online section. Color selection though is limited.
There you have it. Hope you land on a color you love!
