Before you grab a paint brush and start painting, how about giving the product guide a quick once-over? It might not sound like the most thrilling or exciting read, but trust me, it’s worth it! There are several ways to brush up on all things Boysen paints—this blog, the Boysen app, or the Boysen website. Take your pick on whichever is most comfortable and convenient for you!

These avenues are information treasure troves, packed with tips and tricks to get that perfect paint finish. They’ll walk you through everything from prep work to application techniques and requirements, so you’ll know exactly what to do every step of the way. Here are some important things to watch out for before you dive into your next painting job!

Important Info to Take Note Of

Not all architectural paints are formulated the same. Take the time to map out the type of substrate and where it’s located to figure out the best paint for the job.

01 Following the Painting Schedule

Getting impatient with following the proper painting schedule can result in costly redos in the long run. Always follow the proper surface preparation instructions and painting schedule to get your paint job done right. To save yourself future headaches, don’t skip steps, change the order of the process, or change some products completely.

02 Interior-Only PaintsReading the Fine Print: Important Paint Product Info | MyBoysen

While Boysen has a wide array of paints, there are some in the roster that can only be applied to interiors such as Virtuoso Silk Touch, Healthy Home, and Oil Wood Stain, among others. Using these interior-only paints on your exteriors can cause fading or even paint failure in the long run.

03 Substrate Specific InfoWhat Boysen Primer Should I Use for My Painting Project? | MyBoysen

There’s a reason why we always emphasize where you can apply products. If the product information says it can only be applied on concrete, please don’t attempt to apply it in other substrates such as metal or wood. Same goes for the use of the paint, if it’s specifically a primer (such as Primeguard, Rust-Off, or Chalk Blocker) you always need to paint over them with a topcoat to ensure long-lasting durability of the paint finish.

04 Product Service Conditions

Some products aren’t meant to be applied directly onto the substrate. This goes for our array of colorants—Latex Colors, Oil Tinting Colors, Acrytex Tinting Colors, and Automotive Lacquer Tinting Colors. These colorants are meant to be mixed into their respective base paints and cannot be applied directly onto the substrate.

Some Final Notes

Reading through guides and data sheets might not sound like the most exciting way to pass the time. But think of it as your roadmap to paint perfection. Sure, it might take a few extra minutes and effort to read through, but it’s going to be time well-spent. After all, getting your paint job done right the first time means you can kick back and enjoy your newly refreshed paint even sooner (and longer).
