Location plays a part in how susceptible your home is to paint problems. Moreover, depending on the area, the type of paint problem differs too. Knowledge and prevention are key. Knowing which paint issues your walls are most prone to and implementing preventive measures make a big difference. Remember, proper preparation can help you avoid pesky problems from arising in the first place.

With the guidance and expertise of the Boysen Technical Team, we’ve come up with different area-specific painting guides for homeowners all over the Philippines: for those in high humidity areas like Baguio and Tagaytay; for those in coastal areas like Batangas and Palawan; for those in high vegetation areas like Nueva Ecija and Rizal; and for those in big cities like Metro Manila, Cebu City, and Davao City.

There is a separate blog post that goes into detail for each of the categories above. Below are summaries and the links to the full guides:

1.  High Humidity

For places like Baguio and Tagaytay, one of the main problems homes experience is water seepage—a particular headache caused by the high humidity (aka lots of moisture in the air). Without proper waterproofing measures, homes in these areas are also more likely to see blistering and peeling paint, both of which are not easy to treat and resolve.

Waterproofing products are therefore recommended as well as elastomeric paint which is “flexible” enough to tolerate the expansion and contraction that happens to concrete subjected to wide temperature changes, says Boysen experts. 2.  Coastal

For homes in coastal regions like Batangas and Palawan, paint deterioration is a common issue. This is due to the alkalinity of the area because of its proximity to the sea (which is alkaline in nature) which can cause paint to fade and age faster than it’s supposed to. To combat this, more durable paint is needed. In addition, a degree of water resistance is also a good thing to have.

3.  High Vegetation

One of the main paint-related problems of homes in high vegetation areas have to do with mold, mildew, and fungi infestations. It’s a particularly pesky problem as infestations like these do tend to come back even after they’re treated. Regular maintenance, such as being diligent with cleaning, can keep them at bay for some time. However, if your home is especially prone to this type of problem because of the area where you live, regular maintenance can very easily get tiresome.

Paint that is highly resistant to mold, mildew, and fungi are recommended. You will be able to find Boysen products like these for both home exteriors and interiors.

4.  Big Cities

Painting recommendations for homes in cities like Metro Manila, Cebu City, and Davao City can differ depending on the concern of the homeowner. Particularly for those who live in Metro Manila, dependable exterior waterproofing is especially helpful as several typhoons pass by the metropolis every year. Others may also be most concerned with achieving a beautiful, durable exterior that will last a long time.
