Perfect for children’s rooms or for people who love whimsicality in their homes, watch this magical butterfly wall stenciling video tutorial and try it out in your own space.

Choose Your Paint Wisely

Wall Stenciling with paint takes time so it is best to use a friendly product.

For nurseries, children’s rooms, or for any space in your home where you want a paint product that is odor-less, we recommend Boysen Healthy Home, a premium acrylic, water-based interior coating with a satin finish for concrete and drywall surfaces. An important feature of this paint is its added benefit of being antibacterial. Bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella, as well as mildew and fungus, won’t stand a chance with this paint because of its antibacterial additive.

Choose Your Paint Color

For this video, we chose the color Rosy | B-7472. But you don’t have to if you don’t like the color because we have so many colors available that finding one that grabs you would be easy. Watch this video eye candy on Healthy Home’s readily available paint colors.  This may help you with your selection

The colors still don’t grab you? No worries, just go to a Mix and Match Station after the ECQ and ask to see the Boysen Colorizer Series G and Boysen Medley fan decks. That should increase your color choices by 385! Or you can also use our Boysen app while you continue your DIY dreaming in the safety of your home.

The Stencil

Stenciling is an old technique that allows a good control of design and color. The best thing about it is that you can come up with a design that is uniquely yours.

We’ve been asked many time where to get stencils. This is easy even if you don’t know how to draw. First you have to decide what kind of design you would like on your wall. Then, just go to the internet and search for free downloadable stencils. You’d get pages and pages of possible links. Your problem would then be how to choose one.

We chose this butterfly wall stenciling project because the butterfly represents metamorphosis, the transformation of a caterpillar into something exquisite. A butterfly symbolizes rebirth and hope. We definitely need the magic of hope to get us through these times. But another reason is that it is cute and easy to do.

Tip: To create a more interesting design, make butterfly stencils of different sizes.

The Foam Brush or Sponge

For stencil work, choose your tool wisely. You can use synthetic materials like a foam brush or a synthetic sponge if you are using a water-based paint like Healthy Home. The best technique is to dab the paint onto a stencil that has been firmly placed on the wall. Remember not to load your brush or sponge with too much paint to avoid drips.

Stenciling is quite soothing to do. It requires time and patience though so if you are not the type, don’t start. Just rope in someone else to do it. Delegate is the key.
