The Boysen Color Trend 2017 has many blues – all bold, buoyant and beautiful.

For this month’s SM Home’s Complete Your Home, Tom Castaneda, AVP Marketing, chose three:

Rebel Yell

Rebel Yell belongs to the palette Maximal. It has the bright, intense blue of lapis lazuli. Rebel Yell was used to paint the kitchen vignette, giving energy to the space, which is very fitting for a place where food is prepared, food being the fuel required by all of us to keep living full lives.

Designer Denim

Used in the living room vignette, Designer Denim is even deeper in color than Rebel Yell. It is a bold color, dark in hue but not sombre.  Paired with light warm greys and a muted orange, the living room becomes a place where you can relax and find your balance.

Space Encounter

Space Encounter, the lightest blue in the trio, has a tinge of grey. This color is used in two vignettes, the bedroom and the home office.

In the bedroom, the feeling you get is one of buoyancy, a place of rest and feather-light dreams.

Space Encounter in the home office is used together with other colors in the Technology palette – Shimmer Shake, Techy Romantic, and Crystal Sparkle. With all four as your wall colors, you’d expect some jarring notes. But in this case, you get a place that invites you to do your creative best in your work.

I’ll be writing more about the new look of Complete Your Home in the coming weeks, to show you that with a change of colors and different furnishings, you get a totally different look-and-feel to any space. The vignettes are on show at SM Home in the bridgeway at the fifth floor of SM Makati until the end of August.

Kitchens are wonderful, magical places where homemade goodies are created, so what better color to paint it with than Glow with the Flow, a cheerful, sunshine yellow that welcomes the day and brightens the night. Glow with the Flow is one of the colors of the Technology Palette of Boysen Color Trend 2017.

The kitchen vignette was designed by multi-awarded Chef Miko Aspiras, in partnership with interior designer Dagny Madamba who works for Real Living. Because a kitchen is arguably the most functional part of a home, the design philosophy was that form should follow function. Food is a kitchen’s raison dêtre, so the layout as well as the furnishings and appliances were chosen to make sure that creating a meal and tidying up could be done easily and efficiently.

The kitchen is one of the five vignettes of Color Your Home, a brainchild of SM Home’s AVP in Marketing Tom Castaneda. It is open for viewing at the bridgeway in the fifth floor of SM Makati until July 31.

Architect Angelo Siochi chose Space Encounter, a blue-grey color from the Technology Palette of Boysen Color Trend 2017. The hue is subdued but quietly luxurious, which is fitting for a couple’s bedroom. It’s also a sophisticated color that gives an androgynous vibe where masculine and feminine characteristics are finely balanced, and therefore gives a couple their very own harmonious space to come together as equals and enjoy each other’s company in private.

This is one of the five vignettes commissioned by SM Home’s AVP for Marketing Tom Castaneda SM Home’s Complete Your Home which you can find in the bridgeway at the 5th floor of SM Makati.

Visit the exhibit on or before July 31, and steal some sweet inspiration from Architect Angelo Siochi’s bedroom design.

Who wouldn’t want to have a gorgeous living room where you can hang loose, enjoy family time, or entertain guests? There’s that huge, inviting, grey sofa where you can plonk into after a tiring day and maybe catch some ZZZZZs, or where you can lounge around in comfortable, ratty clothes while having a quiet conversation with a loved one, or play board games with friends who’ve dropped by.

Then you have that bright yellow wall that just pops, a witness to all that joy in living. It’s a room that holds memories, secrets, exciting stories, or even boredom. Glow with the Flow from the palette Technology of Boysen’s Color Trend 2017 is painted on the accent wall. The yellow and grey combo is a modern and edgy one, with the patterned black and white area rug and the cheeky spatial tilt of the sofa adding to the dynamic feel of the space.

This living room was designed by Morfosis, a multi-disciplinary design firm led by Misty Floro and Pai Edles, It is one of five room vignettes which is part of the Complete Your Home exhibit at the bridgeway in the fifth floor of SM Makati. This is the brain child of Tom Castaneda, SM Home’s AVP-Marketing.

Complete Your Home at SM Home will be there until July 31, so do visit it and catch some inspiration.

“Wait for us!”

I helplessly called out to my younger cousins who were already lost in the maze of colorful blocks, which, up until then, they had only seen on iPad screens while playing Minecraft. Who could blame them for being so eager? Against the pale whites of the mall’s walls and floors, the vibrant fortress that was the Boysen Mix and Match Color Play set-up drew kids and grown-ups alike into a playground of blocks and paint, a free-of-charge opportunity to have some fun and to showcase creativity.

Awaken the Child

Walking into the color maze, you’ll find large glass cubes filled with shapes of different colors; once you’ve chosen four, you’ll be lead into an open space with stations of paints and brushes at your disposal.

If you’re looking for a way for your kids to get off of their screens, then Boysen ColorPlay is it. Whether it’s carefully painting on their favorite cartoon characters or dipping the blocks straight into the paint, the activity is a great outlet for children’s creativity.

This isn’t to say that adults won’t have a little fun of their own. For serious artists, four blocks and a few cans of paint are more than enough to create an Instagram-worthy work of art. For the not-so-serious, it’s a simple avenue for self-expression, and makes for great family bonding time. (And great selfies too; you can take your own polaroids once you’re finished.)

Discover the Designer

More than just being a fun form of creative expression, Boysen ColorPlay provides insights into one’s inclination for design by taking a look at which palettes you are drawn to. Do you prefer the warm atmosphere that Tradition provides, or the chill vibe of Technology ? Do you identify with the understated Minimal, or does the loudness of Maximal speak to you? These are important questions for people putting together their own place, and Boysen ColorPlay activities and booklets can help with finding the answers.

Boysen ColorPlay also lends its Virtual Reality (VR) set for those looking for a more in-depth experience with the palettes. With the Boysen VR App, you’re transported into sample rooms created to represent each palette, with new virtual rooms released every month. It’s particularly useful for architects and interior designers who want to see how the color themes could be utilized in the real world.

A splash of color is never a bad thing; whether you’re looking for a way to bring out that inner child of yours, or are out to find the palette for the perfect interiors for you, Boysen’s ColorPlay is something you should definitely see for yourself.

You’ll find Boysen Color Play in Robinsons Metro East on June 16 to 18. Drop by with the family and have a lot of fun!

If I were to choose my favorite palette in the Color Trend 2017, my vote would go to Technology. I love the pastels and the way the colors look, so young, fun, lighthearted, bright but soft.

This palette was inspired by the use of digital filters in photography.

The internet is full of visuals where diffusion and saturation changes the feel of the photos. An example would be this video of the Spring-Summer 2017 Ready-to-Wear Chanel Collection. The production design with its pastel colors is young, current, with familiar elements like cactus, geometric patterns on the walls, even that pineapple on the fruit tray.

As for the clothes, classic Chanel is there in the tweed jacket or the rows of faux pearls. However, the modern influence is evident with the trims and finishes updating the jacket, or the pairing of the pearls with a boys cap worn sideways.

My take on the Technology palette as interiors would look like this.

Technology’s iridescent pastels give off the summer feels that most of us anticipate. Although I’m dreading the oppressive heat, I’m also looking forward to the things that summer promises.

My favorite summer vacations are fun-filled days at the beach, two scoops of ice cream piled on top of a sugar cone, yummy fruits that are fresh and juicy, a nap on a duyan under a shady tree, flip-flops (and they don’t have to be Havaianas), the coconut smell of my favorite sunblock, the thrill of watching life underwater, and most of all, the stories and laughter shared by family and friends.

If you could take the colors of the beach and make it the colors of your room, what would it look like?

Well, it could look something like this.

Let’s celebrate summer with splashes of colors saturated with light.

Technology is one of the four new palettes of the Boysen Color Trend 2017. It is a palette of bright pastel colors saturated with light.

You have yellows, blues, oranges and pinks that expand the perception of space and makes it feel lighthearted but also sophisticated at the same time.

Inspired by digital photo filters that have taken the world by storm and refracted light penetrating new materials with varying degrees of transparency, Technology’s colors make a space feel happy and carefree in a very 21st century kind of way. There are no jarring notes, only a palette with a gentle touch which allows light to reflect softly.

There are four palettes in Color Trend 2017 – Tradition, Technology, Maximal and Minimal.
