SM Home has this assistant vice president for Marketing and I call him Turbo Tom (Castañeda). He’s the whirlwind behind the many major activities of SM Home since he joined more than a year ago. I just finished writing about the April and May room vignettes, but while we were not looking Tom had changed the five room vignettes in the bridgeway at the 5th floor of SM Makati.

SM Home’s June Vignettes

They are now looking like these:

Tom opted for accent walls with geometrics or lines, except for the living room wall which was a plain dark blue. Here are the colors that Tom used for the walls and frames.

Checking Out the Room Vignettes

While I was there, I found many customers stopping by. They felt the smoothness of table surfaces, turned over a chair to see if it looked durable from underneath, ran their hands on silky smooth bedsheets, spun around a hanging lamp to see how much the thing cost. I was interested in a narrow trolley and like everyone else, checked out the price. I was pleasantly surprised that it was very affordable. If it were not for a meeting later that evening, I’d have carted it home.

It’s really much easier to see what SM Home offers because of the way they are now being presented visually. Good for the eyes, perfect for those looking for something, but bad for window shoppers’ wallets…unless you have a lot of discipline. That or a lot of money.

There was a couple with two children who just took a side table to the cashier. I was waiting for them to leave so I could take a decent photo of the dining room. But no! Now it had an empty space! The kitchen was also full. Three middle-aged ladies staked that out and took forever discussing other things. I went over and joined them, so I know for sure that they were not talking about kitchen stuff. I left after a few minutes and went to one of my favorite areas in the store – bed linens – to kick my heels for a good half hour. Someday that graphite silky smooth bed linen set will be mine! I’ve been eyeing that set since I saw it in the SM Home Turnover Fair in April.

Don’t take my word for it, guys. Go and check out the new room vignettes at SM Home Makati and see how Tom mixes and matches wall paint colors with the colors of furniture and home accessories, and how he and his mates design spaces.

And don’t wait too long either, Turbo Tom will most probably change everything again.
