Personally, I think one of the best feelings in the world is getting lost in a good book. While e-books are rising in popularity now, nothing beats that new book smell, am I right? Also, the grayscale screen of an e-book reader doesn’t give justice to the masterpiece-like covers that some of our favorite books come in. And, if you’re like me, sometimes I pick books off the shelves based on how pretty or colorful their covers are! ? And so, to all the bibliophiles out there, I present to you the bookworm’s color palettes.
Romance
If you’re ideal Friday night consists of curling up with a good romantic novel and a glass of red wine, this palette is for you. From the soft and tender pinks of first loves and sweet nothings, to the passionate, burning hot glow of fiery reds, the romance genre’s color palette has it all.
Mystery and Thrillers
When I pick up a mystery or a thriller novel, I make sure to have snacks and drinks on hand at all times. Because I just can’t seem to put the book down! I just need to know what happens next. Like suspenseful plots shrouded in mystery, this genre’s color palette consists of mystifying grays and dusty blues.
Self-Help
Reaching for a self-help book doesn’t necessarily mean there’s something inherently wrong with you. It’s an enhanced sense of self-awareness that there are certain things we can improve in ourselves. We chose some purple hues for this enlightening genre’s color palette as this shade is known for wisdom, bravery, and spirituality.
Fantasy and Science Fiction
I first discovered my love of reading from getting lost in a series of (magical school-related) fantasy novels targeted towards young adults. It opened up a whole new world for me, widening my creativity and imagination. For these playful genres, we chose a fun and energetic orange and yellow color palette.
Biography and Memoirs
Growing up, I was not the type to be particularly interested in reading non-fiction books, especially memoirs. As I grew older though, I also grew a sense of appreciation for getting to know and understand some outstanding individuals through their biographies and memoirs. Their stories encourage me to look beyond myself and to really grow as a person. For this insightful genre, we chose invigorating green hues which symbolizes growth and renewal.
Postscript
These are just some color inspirations for a bookworm’s next painting project. Of course, there are numerous other genres out there, but maybe we can tackle that in another article. Also, your color palette doesn’t have to be limited to our recommendations, too. Love a particular book cover from your favorite author? Why not use that as your living space’s color? If you’re having a hard time looking for its paint color equivalent, download the Boysen App! We have a feature there that lets you take a photo of anything and match its nearest paint color.
